SUNBURN

Sunburn is a form of radiation burn that affects living tissue, such as skin, that results from an overexposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, usually from the Sun. Common symptoms in humans include: red skin that is hot to the touch or painful, general fatigue and mild dizziness. Excessive UV radiation can be life-threatening in extreme cases.

Sun protective measures including sunscreen and sun protective clothing are widely accepted to prevent sunburn and some types of skin cancer. Special populations, including children, are especially susceptible to sunburn and protective measures should be used to prevent damage.

HOW TO PREVENT SUNBURN

WATCH THE CLOCK

The sun’s rays are the most intense between 10 AM and 4 PM.

Try avoid being outdoors during the time or stick to the shady areas as much as possible.

WEAR THE RIGHT GEAR

Broad-brimmed hats, long-sleeves, pants, and UV-blocking sunglasses can protect you from the sun to a large extent.

APPLY SUNSCREEN

It is important to cover exposed areas of the skin with a minimum of 1 ounce of broad-spectrum sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of at least 30 to offer protection against UVA and UVB.
